I now think
differently about how I teach.
This is the most meaningful professional development I have
experienced in my teaching career.
I love the sustainability coaching. There is no end to the
ways I can apply what I learn from you—self, students,
colleagues—we all benefit.
I have thought about leaving the field many times, but since
our school has been building strengths, optimism,
resilience, and relationship skills among our faculty, I see
my work in a different light. I really was born to be a
teacher.
Regarding character strengths, I feel like I no longer have
to apologize for being “too nice” and “too happy”. I now
feel like I have ownership of my strengths.
The idea of
playing to strengths is powerful and simple. I don’t need to
beat myself up over who I am not.
I volunteered to take the three-day course even though
yesterday was our last day of school. Everyone who has taken
it here said it was not to be missed, and they were right! I
already have plans for using what I’ve learned this fall. |

To say the least, I am
inspired by your thoughts and activities.
―Elementary School Assistant Principal
I am using the character strengths as the basis for
essays in my senior course.
―Health Educator and Director of Athletics
I admit to being skeptical at first, but now I am
convinced of the utility of your programs for teachers
connecting with students, and also for teachers connecting
with each other.
―High school principal
Faculty and students have become much more effective
collaborators now that they have a shared language for
talking about strengths.
—Student Services Director
The administrative team used to have very circumscribed
roles in our district. Thanks to you, we use a
strengths-based and distributive approach. Our
strengths-mapping exercise hangs on the wall to remind us of
the power of all.
―High School Principal
I have been given license to use my strengths, and
guidance to use them wisely without exaggeration . . . to
attain higher goals.
―High School Leadership instructor
This is just what our school needs! I love the
appreciative process. It’s so much more effective than the
fix-it approach.

When parents and prospective
students visit our dormitory, they comment on how optimistic our girls
are and how they are all on the same page. The Appreciative Inquiry
process has made this a reality.
The program has provided me with a structured and systematic approach to
supporting student leadership in my dorm.
The day and evening staff used to be in conflict. Now they view
themselves as a team. |
